FAQ

Can I join if I don't have a stroller-aged baby?

Absolutely! The first Stroller Strides class I attended included moms with newborns, moms with toddlers, and moms with NO kids in tow! You are also welcome to bring your older children to class. It's a great opportunity for your older kids to learn the importance of exercise and staying healthy. We just ask that they stay alongside you for the safety of themselves and others.

What is Stroller Strides?

The "best of both worlds" Mom-and-Me activity!

Looking for a way to get in shape, meet other moms, and have fun with your child/children? Stroller Strides is just what you’re looking for—come out and try it for free!

Stroller Strides is a total fitness program for moms that they can do with their baby or stroller-age child. The hour-long workout includes power walking with jogging options, and intervals of strength training & body toning, using exercise tubing, the environment, and the stroller. Resistance training, abdominal work and cardiovascular endurance are emphasized. Taught by nationally certified instructors who are trained in pre- and post-natal fitness, it's a great workout for any fitness level.

Pregnant? Stroller Strides is for you too! Our Instructors are certified in pre- and post-natal fitness and are trained to offer modifications for all stages of pregnancy.

Brand new mom? We invite you to join us after your 6 week post-partum check up, just make sure you get your doctor's approval to exercise.

Whatever your fitness level, Stroller Strides will provide you with a dynamic workout, giving you the most for your energy and effort. Exercises can be modified according to each individual's needs.

Fitness for Mom & Fun for Baby

In addition to providing a great full body workout for moms, we engage the children throughout our classes, keeping baby entertained while mom exercises. We welcome moms and babies from 6 weeks to any age that they’ll stay in a stroller (usually about 4 years old).

*Summer months: we know that school aged children are no longer in school during this time. If your child is no longer of stroller age and you know they will stay with you and/or the instructor the entire workout without issue, they may accompany you to the work out.

More than a fitness program

Stroller Strides is more than a fitness class. An essential dynamic of the Stroller Strides program includes playgroups and other social activities for you, your baby, and your family - a great way for you and your children to make new friends!

Our program also offers a playgroup (at no additional cost) that consists of weekly activities after class, monthly moms night out activities and special community events.

What to Bring/Wear?

- Comfortable walking/cross-training/running shoes and exercise-appropriate clothing

- Just about any kind of stroller will do so long as it's not prone to tipping

- Water

- Towel or mat for abs and stretching

- A hat and/or sunscreen for you and your little one (for outdoor classes)

- Baby/kid essentials including snacks and/or toys for your little ones

Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to the start time of each class. We don't want to leave anyone behind!

All strollers, except umbrella strollers will work fine. This is not just a stroll in the park but a workout that gets you striding into your best self (and the bonus of spending time with your children and other moms/friends).

Can I join Stroller Strides if I'm pregnant?

YES! We encourage expectant moms to continue to exercise throughout their pregnancy as long as the activity has been approved by their physician. Instructors are trained in both pre- and post-natal fitness and follow the ACOG guidelines. We can modify any exercise that poses an issue as you progress through your pregnancy. Stroller Strides does require a doctor's approval prior to beginning class if pregnant and that form can be emailed to you, so you are ready to go on your first day! Exercise during pregnancy helps improve or increase:

  • Cardiovascular fitness
  • Muscular strength/endurance
  • Energy levels
  • Higher fatigue threshold
  • Posture and biomechanics
  • Circulation
  • Self-esteem, sense of well-being
  • Recovery time

What's the Weather Policy?

Outdoor classes are held at Mount Lebanon Main Park. These classes will be cancelled due to very heavy rain or extreme temperatures in the summer months. Class changes due to the weather (or other last-minute changes) will be posted on our Facebook Page by 8 am the day of class.

Classes go indoors in November and are held in the Galleria Mall. Class cancellations for indoor classes revolve around the calendar and policies of the Galleria Mall.

My baby doesn't like being in the stroller for too long, how will I get a good workout?

Babies are Stroller Strides' first priority, so don't worry if yours is fussy! Our classes are designed to keep the kids moving (I know this helps my baby fall right asleep!) and we engage them by incorporating songs into our exercise moves and sometimes use props to keep them entertained. Moms of infants might consider using a baby carrier - we can modify exercise so that they are baby-wearing friendly. With that said, if you need to change, nurse or console your baby then go right ahead! Kids will have good and bad days - some days your baby will nap the entire class and you'll get a great workout and other days your baby might need a little more attention and we can increase the intensity to make up for any missed time. Either way, you are setting a great example for your kids and, before you know it, they will be looking forward to class as much as you are!
